Umbrella Stroller

Ever wonder exactly what an umbrella stroller is?  Its a word that get used a lot but very few people actually know what the term means.

Basically, there are two main features to it.  First, its lightweight.  These strollers should be easily picked up and carried.  You will find that most of them will weigh under 12 pounds.  Second, it should be able to be folded upside down to a shape that highly resembles the “letter J,” which not oddly enough resembles an actual umbrella.

Almost every major brand manufactures these types of types of strollers and within this specific type several models, or versions, are usually produced.  You can find find umbrella strollers that are very basic in design with “no thrills” for close to $60 or you can find upscale umbrella strollers with every feature imaginable for $300.

What type of parent(s) would prefer an umbrella stroller?  Ones who are always on the go.  If you are a person who travels a lot, engages in many activities, and hates to stay home for long periods of time then this type of baby stroller is definitely for you!  Not only can they be folded with ease but they are usually made to take up very little space.  You can throw them in your car, pack them with ease should you be traveling by plane, and be used in places that are crowded.  If you like maneuverability then an umbrella stroller is probably going to be your best choice.

If you are shopping for this type of stroller in the Maclaren brand then you need to look at the “Volo.”  It weighs nine pounds, steers great, makes tight corners easily, comes with a sunshade/rain cover, has a 5-point harness, and can be folded very easily into whatever space you need to place it.  The only drawback would be it does not have a reclining seat.
